GAMMON FAMILY PAPERS
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises papers pertaining to the operation of the Gammon ranch, the Gammon family genealogy and manuscripts. The collection also contains a small amount of personal papers. The records of the Gammon ranch primarily document the fiscal management. Eugene and Gertrude Gammon authored several manuscripts that were based on the ranch and El Paso County, Colorado. These manuscripts provide additional insight into life on the ranch during the early 1900s.
Extensive genealogy research conducted by Gertrude Gammon comprises a portion of the collection. Genealogies on the Sturtevant, Dunning, Large and Gammon families include correspondence dating back to the 1840s, notes and family histories.
Records pertaining to Eugene A. and James B. Gammon comprise a small portion of the collection. Other Gammon family members are represented primarily by newspaper clippings. A couple of audio recordings of ceremonies belonging to James B. Gammon, plats and maps form the remainder of the collection.
This series consists of papers generated by ranch operations. Material includes: financial records, deeds of stock brands, land certificates, deeds, agreements and a guest log book.
The series consist of manuscripts, genealogy and personal papers. Eugene and Gertrude wrote the manuscripts with the majority authored by Gertrude. They based the manuscripts on their lives in Colorado and on the Gammon ranch. The series contains extensive genealogy research conducted by Gertrude. The genealogy material contains correspondence written by extended family members from the 1840s to the 1890s. Gertrude's personal correspondence and newspaper clippings about her involvement in numerous organizations forms a small portion of the series.
The series comprises a minimal amount of records on family members. A scrapbook on Eugene A. Gammon's service in the navy during World War II and papers from James B. Gammon's involvement in the 4-H Club form the bulk of the series. For several individuals the only record is an obituary.
One reel of film and three records comprise the series. Recordings of the naturalization ceremonies and Flag Day comprise two of the three recordings.
The oversize material primarily documents the operation of the Gammon ranch. One original and two copies of financial ledgers are included along with three plats that contain notations.
This series is comprised of one box of mostly black and white photographs, that includes various identified family prints, as well as identified photographs reflecting life on the ranch and the growth and development of the ranch.
