HISTORICAL NOTE

Aaron Gove (1867-1924) was born in Illinois on July 12, 1867. Gove's father, Professor Gove accepted the position of superintendent of school district No. 1 in Denver and moved his family to Denver, Colorado in 1874. Gove graduated from the Old East High School in Denver before attending the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. Following a year at the School of Mines, Gove worked for Denver architect Robert Roeschlaub from 1887 to 1891. Gove studied architecture in Illinois in 1891, then returned to Denver to work for the firm of Andrews, Jacques and Rantoul, a Boston firm working on the Equitable Building. The following year, he began his own practice.

Thomas F. Walsh (1866-1948) was born in Chicago where he worked with the architectural firm of Willoughby J. Edbrooke and Franklin P. Burnham. In 1887, Walsh worked on a Robert Roeschlaub project, Trinity Methodist Church, in Denver, but he returned to Chicago to work for the prominent architectural firm, Holabird and Roche. Walsh returned to Denver in 1894.

In 1894, Gove and Walsh formed a partnership. Together, they designed a variety of notable buildings in Denver. These buildings include the center section of Union Station (1914), the Sugar Building (1906), and the Colorado Moline Plow Company plant. Warehouses they designed line Wynkoop Street. The pair also designed large houses for prominent Denver citizens including the Chester S. Morey-Guggenheim House, the John F. Campion House and the Charles Halleck House.

After Gove's death in 1924, Walsh continued architectural work under the firm name of Gove and Walsh until he retired in 1933. At that time, he dissolved the firm.
