JESSE S. RANDALL PAPERS
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Jesse S. Randall Papers consist mostly of scrapbooks containing printing samples from his business, The Georgetown Courier. Some prices are written on the samples from orders. Other scrapbooks include material relating to mining surveys and claims, and World War I draft lists. The majority comprises samples from his business including: business cards, forms, letterhead stationery, announcements, tickets, broadsides, theater programs, and newspaper clippings. An order book for printing jobs and accounts from the Georgetown Courier newspaper is also included.
This series is divided into four subseries pertaining to the professional papers of Jesse S. Randall. If includes financial records, printing services, correspondence, and scrapbooks documenting Randall’s career. Printing samples, cards, stationery, newspaper clippings, as well as broadsides and flyers form a portion of the series.
This series contains two subseries consisting of personal correspondence and newspaper clippings. This series includes: scrapbooks filled with newspaper clippings regarding mining surveys and claims, as well as, personal correspondence mounted on two loose scrapbook pages.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Jesse Summer Randall was born to Abraham and Mary A. Randall on April 23, 1848 in Fleming County, Kentucky. Randall began his career at a young age as a typesetter for numerous newspapers in the Midwest. In 1859, Randall began work at the Des Moines Tribune. He moved to Georgetown, Colorado in 1869 and worked for the only local paper, the Georgetown Miner. On June 11 1874, he married Cornelia A. Hendricks of Des Moines Iowa. Randall returned to Colorado with Cornelia. Their daughter, Pearl, was born in December of 1875. While in Georgetown Randall founded the Georgetown Courier in May 1877 and continued to manage the Courier for sixty years.
In October 1877, Randall’s second daughter, Florence, was born, followed by son Cornelius in April 1881 and Edna in September 1882. In addition to managing the Courier Randall sold minerals from the Courier office. In 1881, Jesse S. Randall’s father, Abram Randall, moved to Colorado and took up residence next to the Courier office. Abram Randall remained in Georgetown until his death at the age of 101.
In 1936, when Jesse S. Randall’s eyes began to fail him, he left his publishing business to his son Cornelius Randall. Jesse S. Randall’s wife, Cornelia, passed away on July 4 1938. Jesse S. Randall passed away on January 24, 1939 at the age of 91. Both Randall, his wife Cornelia, their son Cornelius and his wife Bess, along with daughter Pearl and her husband Mathew Sidney are all buried in Alvarado Cemetery near Georgetown, Colorado.
