SU TEATRO RECORDS
Scope and Contents
The Su Teatro manuscript collection encompasses the theater's stage productions, community events and office records from approximately 1986, when the theater was incorporated, to 1995. Material concerning plays and events includes promotional material such as programs, fliers, event schedules, press releases and play announcements. Production files, arranged chronologically by play title, supplement the promotional material. The office files record the activities of staff and board meetings, the acquisition of Elyria Elementary School, grant proposals and guidelines, and correspondence to and from the theater. Other significant items include newspaper clippings from Denver, around the state, and San Antonia as well as a few production posters. The collection reflects the efforts and activities of Denver's leading minority theater.
This series contains the history and background material on Su Teatro, along with incorporation papers, by laws and objectives of the theater. This series also includes minutes of staff and board meetings from 1986-1994, budget statements and analysis, property acquisition material for Elyria Elementary School with property titles, grant manuals and proposals and general correspondence and memos.
Su Teatro's logo graphic, along with event schedules, programs, fliers, and play announcement comprise the promotional material series. Su Teatro's newsletter Presenta and other workshop and arts institute papers further contribute to the promotional material.
Oral history transcripts, manuscripts, newspaper clippings and conference papers comprise this series.
This series contains fliers advertising productions and events. A few programs and newspaper clippings about performances are included. Also, original scripts comprise a portion of the series.
A sweatshirt and t-shirts with Su Teatro and production logos comprise this series.
This series consists of two audiocassettes with oral histories of Ruth Ortega and Ramona Anaya and 2 boxes of videocassettes. The videocassettes include promotional tapes and Su Teatro productions mainly for Denver Community Television.
Posters for various productions constitute this series.
Color and black-and-white photographs of events, staff, actors and productions comprise this series.

Biographical / Historical
Su Teatro, the resident bilingual theater company of El Centro Su Teatro, was formed from an "Intro to Chicano Theatre" class at the University of Colorado in 1971. Since then, Su Teatro has been educating and entertaining communities around the Denver, Colorado metro area and throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The company produces original plays created by playwright/director Anthony J. Garcia and offers classes and workshops for children and adults. It also tours nationally and attends national and international conferences and festivals.
