Biographical / Historical

Delphinia (Delphine) Mendenhall Haworth was born October 28, 1857, in Wilmington, Ohio, to Elizabeth Painter (1832-1903) and James Mahlon Haworth (1831-1885). In 1870, the family moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Olathe, Kansas, on account of James's poor health. In 1872, James was appointed as an United States Indian Agent and was assigned to the Kiowa and Comanche people near Fort Sill, Indian Territory, in 1873, where he remained until April 1878. His wife and children mostly resided in Kansas.
