Biographical / Historical
Milton Louis Johnson was born on January 19, 1923 to Edward and Lydia (Natz) Johnson in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. After graduating from high school, he worked as an asbestos and insulation installer. Johnson enlisted in the United States Army on February 15, 1943. He joined the 87th Infantry Regiment, Company F, of the 10th Mountain Division and was deployed to both Kiska Island in 1943 and Italy in 1944. Johnson attained the rank of private first class and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his actions at Torre Iussi on April 14, 1945. After his honorable discharge from the Army on November 11, 1945, Johnson graduated from the University of Minnesota and married Marylyn Louise Iverson.
