Biographical / Historical
Samuel Terrell Thomas was born in Magnolia, Arkansas January 11, 1926. He was raised on a cotton farm and graduated from Magnolia High School in May 1943. He was accepted into the Army’s Specialized Training Program (ASTP) and assigned to Texas Tech University. He received his basic training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. When the ASTP program was terminated, Thomas was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Swift, Texas. He served with I Company, 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment. Thomas attained the rank of Private First Class and received the Combat Infantryman Badge for his combat service in Italy. Following the War, Thomas returned to run the family cotton farm and to work for Beatrice Foods. Thomas married Ann Keese in 1946. They reared two children and have three grandchildren. Thomas passed away on March 11, 2011 in Magnolia, Arkansas.
