Biographical / Historical

James G. Martin was born in 1924 in Matawan, New Jersey. After graduating high school, he was drafted to the United States Army on May 28, 1943. Martin joined the 86th Infantry Regiment, Company M, of the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado and transferred with the Division to Camp Swift, Texas in 1944. Martin fought with the Division in Italy in 1945. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his service with the 10th and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in combat. Martin and his wife, Louise, currently reside in New Jersey.
