Biographical / Historical
Cathy Donohue was the second woman ever elected to Denver City Council. She was elected to the District 10 seat in 1975. During that City Council race, Cathy Reynolds was elected as City Council's first female member. Because Reynolds won her seat outright, while Donohue won her seat after a runoff, Reynold's position was certified first.
While serving on City Council, Donohue focused on improving park maintenance, creating a more community-oriented police force, and strengthening historic preservation and downtown revitalization. Donohue was elected as City Council President three times. She resigned from her her seat on Denver City Council in February 1994, when she was appointed by Mayor Wellington Webb to serve as the Director of the Mayor's Office of Regulatory Reform. She was reappointed to that position in 1995 and 1999.
