Biographical / Historical
Russel Glen Ricketson was born on December 15, 1923 to William Wallace and Aledia Almira (Myers) Ricketson in Plattsburgh, New York. He registered for the draft on July 17, 1942 and joined Company E, 85th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado. He transferred out of the 10th Mountain Division in 1944 and joined the 16th Armored Division, 144th Armored Signal Company.
Following the war, Ricketson was an avid skier and racer. He served as a member of the American Third Army Ski Team in 1946 and was one of the founding members of the Beartown Ski Area. Ricketson was a member of the Elks, the American Legion, Post 20 and the Telecom Pioneers. He served as Union President of the CWA Local 1129 from 1972 to 1978. Ricketson retired in 1985 from the New York Telephone Company after 38 years of service. He died on September 20, 2007.
