Biographical / Historical

Edwin Morris Barbour was born on January 16, 1921 to Willis Calvin (I) and Elizabeth Perlina 'Lina' (Surles) Barbour in Johnston, North Carolina. After completing four years of high school, Barbour was working as a farm hand when he was drafted to the Army on December 7, 1942. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado and was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division Medical Battalion, Company B, where he attained the rank of Technician 4th Grade. In December 1944, Barbour deployed with the Division to Italy. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his actions on April 28, 1945. Barbour was killed in a car accident on February 8, 1953.
