Content Description

The collection contains one color 8mm film reel from 1957. The four-minute film, which does not have audio, documents the Maurice H. Pride family having a picnic at the Anne Evans Observation Point in Central City, Colorado; hiking to several unidentified look-out points; and walking near Brown's Nook, a cabin located at 274 Olde Carter Lake Road in Golden, Colorado. The film reel was digitized in 2016, resulting in a 6290 MB MOV file and a 70MB MP4 file, which are now included in the collection.

Biographical / Historical

Maurice Holmes Pride was born on March 21, 1905, in Green Cove Springs, Florida, and grew up in Georgiana, Alabama, where his father founded and published the Butler County News. Pride attended Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. He married Beulah Maude Pratt (1905-1995) in 1934 in Macomb, Illinois, and the couple had one son, William M. Pride (1939-2010). The family moved to Clovis, New Mexico, in 1943, and to Denver, Colorado, in 1945 when Pride began working for the Denver Post. There, he served as a linotype operator and later a printer until his retirement in 1973. Pride died on February 21, 1978, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
