Biographical / Historical
Evelyn May Supply was born on May 1, 1919 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Otto and Florence A. Supply. She graduated from Dumont High School in Dumont, New Jersey in 1937 and worked as a file clerk in the loans and security division of the New York Life Insurance Company from 1938 to 1943. On February 3, 1943, she enlisted in the United States Army, Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in New York City. She took on the rank of technician fourth grade (T/4) at Camp Hale, Colorado as a Chief Clerk where her responsibilities included processing insurance forms, writing correspondence, making statistical reports, and assisting with bond rallies. Supply was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as the Clerk General where she was in charge of the Morning Report Section at Fort Wood, Missouri. During her time in the Army, she received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War 2 Victory Medal, and the WAAC Service Ribbon. She was honorably discharged from the Army on December 17, 1945. After the war, she married Albert C. Pleskus on September 12, 1946 in Orangetown, New York. The couple had four children. Supply passed away on September 6, 2008 in Greenville, South Carolina.
